Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program offers free tax help for low- to moderate-income (under $40,000) people who cannot prepare their own tax returns. Volunteers, sponsored by Washita Valley CAC, have received training to help prepare basic tax returns in communities in the Grady and Caddo county areas.
We will continually seek for additional volunteers who would like to become a member of our team. Training is provided as are all materials necessary to perform the tax returns. The only thing asked is a commitment of a minimum of 20 hrs of volunteering during the tax season; this may be done during the day, evenings or weekends. If you are interested, please feel free to contact our office at 405-224-5831.

The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a refundable tax credit designed to encourage employment in low-income families and to offset the effects of Medicare and Social Security payroll taxes on working poor families. When the credit is not needed to offset tax liabilities, it is refunded as a cash allowance.
Unfortunately, qualifying families often fail to benefit from EITC. Many families believe that if they do not owe any taxes, they do not need to file an income tax return. Some are immigrants who do not realize that resident aliens qualify for the EITC.
The value of the EITC varies with family earnings, topping out at about $4,000 for a family with two children and phasing out at incomes near $35,000, with lower caps for households with one or no children. Married parents filing jointly qualify at a slightly higher income level than heads of households. The credits can be claimed for qualifying children up to 19 years of age, or 24 years if they are in college. |
